***This information is not confirmed – Jones line:
Four Jones sons, Alexander,William,Robert and James and their parents, migrated from Orange Co. North Carolina to first, Madison Co. Kentucky, then on to Pulaski County Kentucky by 1800. At which time son Thomas was born. Unfortunately we do not know the names of the parents of these five boys. One of our BIG BRICK WALLS. These five Jones boys, wives, children moved on to Sangamon Co. Illinois by the mid 1820’s. These Jones’ were accounted as among the earliest settlers of the county in a book “Earliest Settlers of Sangamon Co.” published in 1875. My line begins there with the youngest Thomas Jones.

He is buried in the Main Station Church Cemetery in Appanoose County Iowa.Fielding at the present has no headstone, but a cement border outlines the grave. In the records of the church and county the buriel plot was purchased by Thomas Sweetman Jones, his son shortly after Fielding’s death. Mary Ellen Sweetman Jones had returned to Iowa and was living with son Thomas Sweetman Jones at the time of her death in 1911. She was buried in the Hanes Cemetery, although no headstone is found for her, its believed she may have been buried next to her parents, Thomas Sweetman and Elizabeth Blackford Sweetman.

Names of the children of William and Etta Jones have been removed.

Thomas Sweetman was born abt. 1815 in Pennsylvania. His parents are unknown but believe is is connected to a line of Sweetmans from Maryland in the 1640’s? Thomas is a prominent name in the family. I have yet to prove this out or make contact with any descendant of that line.

Thomas married Mary? (maiden name unknown) marriage date in mid 1830’s, place unknown. Thomas is found in Deleware Co. Indiana in 1836. He sold property in 1838 and on the land sales records he is stated as seller along with his wife Mary. Mary signs away her dower rights to the property as was the custom of the times. Thomas also bought other property. Both land purchases are recorded in Deleware County, but one was purchased in 1838 just after he sold his property and the other in 1839 and land records state he was living in Franklin Co. Indiana at the time. Mary must have died after 1839 and before 1843. Thomas married again to Elizabeth Blackford whose line dates back to Samuel Blackford who we believe was born in Scotland in 1640/50. The Sweetman family left Indiana and moved to Van Buren Co. Iowa by 1844 where their daughters were born. In researching Thomas Sweetman in Iowa, I found that he and his first wife had three children.
William b. about 1836 d. unknown m. Nancy Harderty one son Amos J. Sweetman b. 1857
Martin b. 1837 d. unknown.
Jacob b. 1839 d. 1920 Blythdale Mo. m. Mary Pearce September 1861 Centerville Iowa. They had three children: David, Elmira M. and Thomas Henry Sweetman b. 1871.

Thomas Sweetman and Elizabeth Blackford had the following children

Mary Ellen Sweetman b. 1844 Van Buren Co. Iowa
Lavina Sweetman b. 1846 Van Buren Co. Iowa
Martha Sweetman
Margaret Sweetman

Mary Ellen Sweetman married a Joseph Pearce in 1861 and they had a child Martin Pearce. It is unknown what happened to the marriage, if Joseph died or ended in divorce. Mary Ellen then married FieldingFielden/Feldon Jones in 1871. One of the family stories I have is that Fielding made a dresser for his wife, its an oak highboy, with dovetail joints in the drawers and swivel mirror on top. Its as solid as the day it was made, although it has been refinished, unfortunately that decreased it value monetarily, it has not decreased its senimental value as I am in possession of that very same dresser and is used for its intended purpose.
