JOHN LARD was born FEBRUARY 12, 1792 near Charleston, South Carolina, was taken by his parents to Kentucky, where his father died. AT 15 YEARS OF AGE HE WENT TO ST. LOUIS TO VISIT AN UNCLE AND WAS MARRIED THERE IN 1812(?very unlikely 1812? most likely 1818) TO LYDIA TODD. SHE DIED IN FEBRUARY 1824 LEAVING ONE CHILD – Josiah Lard born May 12, 1819. John Lard went to Wayne Co. Illinois and was there married to Elizabeth Kelly, and returned to St. Louis around 1830, and came to Sangamon County in March 1835 and settled in what is now Ball Township. They had six children – of his seven children.*1
